Definition:

We seek a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor with expertise in social-emotional ​development to join our Aspen Ridge Team. The School Counselor will support students' overall ​well-being and success in grades 7-12 by providing individual and group counseling, implementing ​social-emotional learning programs, and collaborating with staff, parents, and community ​resources. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a deep ​commitment to helping students navigate social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Responsibilities of Aspen School Counselor will include but are not limited to:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to special and general education students to address ​social-emotional, behavioral, and personal concerns, utilizing evidence-based interventions ​and therapeutic techniques.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students' social-emotional ​development and academic success through consultation, collaboration, and advocacy.
  • Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and curricula to promote self-awareness, ​self-management, social awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision-making.
  • Facilitate workshops, presentations, and training sessions for students, parents, and staff on ​social-emotional wellness, resilience, conflict resolution, and other relevant areas. Deliver ​classroom lessons focused on social-emotional development.
  • Serve as a resource and liaison between students, families, school personnel, and community ​organizations to connect students with appropriate support services and resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and interventions, adhering ​to ethical and legal guidelines.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including special education staff, the school ​psychologist, and outside agencies, to develop comprehensive support plans for students with ​complex needs.


School Counselor Job Description

  • Advocate for the social-emotional needs of students within the school community and ​promote a positive school climate that fosters inclusivity, empathy, and respect.
  • Engage in master planning to enhance counseling services and support student well-being.
  • Respond to crises within the school community, offering immediate support and intervention.
  • Deliver Individualized Education Program (IEP) minutes per legal requirements.
  • Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings as necessary to collaborate on student ​interventions.
  • Attend 504 meetings to provide input and support for students with special needs.
  • Serve as a panel member for truancy meetings, addressing attendance issues and promoting ​student engagement.
  • Collaborate with the intervention team to develop and implement strategies for at-risk ​students.
  • Compile and distribute the Raven’s Nest Newsletter to inform education partners of ​counseling-related initiatives.
  • Co-author the Counselor’s Corner Quarterly School Counseling Network Newsletter to share ​best practices and resources with colleagues.
  • Serve as a coach for the Check-In/Check-Out program, supporting students in setting and ​achieving behavioral goals.
  • Conduct risk assessments for crisis students, identify potential threats and develop ​appropriate interventions.
  • Consult with academic counselors to address the intersection of academic and social-​emotional needs for students.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as directed by the school administration to support the ​counseling department's overall functioning and contribute to students' well-being and ​success.
  • May be asked to assist in supporting other duties as assigned, based on your sites need.

  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Team player: maturity, humility, strong work ethic, follow-through, sense of humor, willingness ​to respond positively to feedback, and a “whatever it takes” attitude.
  • Strong belief in the Aspen mission and educational model.
  • Mastery of and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
  • Two years of teaching experience preferred with a proven record of high student achievement.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 from a competitive college or university; Master’s ​degree preferred.
  • California teaching credential or in the process of obtaining a credential
